Columbia County, WI Jail Release

If you have a loved one in Columbia County Jail, it is important that you contact an experienced attorney right away so that he or she can begin working on the defendant’s case and try to get them released from jail as soon as possible.

Getting Released from Columbia County Jail

To get released from jail, the defendant must first make bail. Bail is an amount set by the court that helps guarantee the accused will return to court for the first hearing. Because Wisconsin does not allow a for-profit bail bond industry, you are not able to work with a bondsman to get your loved one released from jail. But there are a few other options, including:

  • Signature bond – A signature bond allows you to not pay anything before the first court date. However, if the defendant does not show up for the hearing, he or she will likely owe the full bail amount.
  • 10 percent surety bond – An adult age 21 or older can help the defendant by paying 10 percent of the bail amount, most of which will be returned once the accused returns to court.
  • Release on recognizance – This option is typically only offered to first time offenders of non-violent misdemeanors as it allows the defendant to be released without setting a bail amount.
  • Cash bond – You or the defendant can pay the full bail amount in cash. Bail is often very expensive so this is usually the least popular option.
