Question: What is a visa?

Answer: A visa is the legal authority by which a person who is not a citizen can enter and remain in the United States for the approved purpose and length of time. There are immigrant visas, which allow a person to enter the United States to remain and live here, and then there are non-immigrant visas, which allow a person to enter the United States for a specific purpose and a specific time period, and then they are required to depart after that.
