Answer: There are a variety of different categories that a person can be put into. You can be ordered to be on the sex offender registry just for the length of probation, so if you’re placed on a probation or a supervision, the court can order that you have to register on the sex offender registry for that length of time. Otherwise, the two standard categories that the statute lays out are a 15-year reporting requirement and then a lifetime reporting requirement. So those are the general categories that we see people fall into.
