How to Get Out of Lafayette County Jail

Once the defendant has gone through the booking process, he or she will be set bail. This amount is what must be paid off before the defendant can be released from jail. Because Wisconsin does not allow a for-profit bail bond industry, you are not able to go through a bondsman to pay the bail. However, there are a few other options, such as:

  • 10 percent surety bond – An adult 21 or older pays 10 percent of the bail amount
  • Cash bond – The total bail amount is paid in cash
  • Signature bond – The defendant signs a document promising to pay the bail amount if he or she does not return for the scheduled court date
  • Release on recognizance – Typically only available to first-time offenders of non-violent misdemeanors, bail is not set, but documents must be signed promising to return to court
