Getting Released from Monroe County Jail

To get released from Monroe County Jail, you must first make bail. The bail amount will depend on the crime that the accused is being charged with, and will often take into consideration prior offenses. In Wisconsin, you cannot go through a bondsman to make bail, but there are a few other options you could utilize.

  • A 10 percent surety bond allows an adult age 21 or older to pay 10 percent of the total bail amount.
  • A cash bond is the least popular option because it requires paying the bail amount in cash and up front, but it does often allow for quicker release of the defendant.
  • A signature bond does not require payment to be made immediately, but the defendant will have to sign a document claiming responsibility for the amount if he or she does not show up to the scheduled court date.
  • If the accused is offered the option of release on recognizance, he or she will not be set a bail amount, but will have to sign documents promising to return for the hearing.
