Question: If a defendant has a substance abuse problem and is charged with a drug offense, is there a treatment option available instead of sentencing in Wisconsin?

Answer: Often there is. That will depend partly on what the charge is, and it will depend on the court. Many courts in Wisconsin have or are in the process of developing treatment courts and have other treatment options available. However, not all courts have those options. There are also some drug charges, which may not be eligible for treatment options depending on the seriousness of the charge.
