Question: What type of lawyer should someone hire to handle a white-collar crime case?

Answer: A criminal defense attorney experienced in white-collar crime is definitely the best option. So to take the real estate example: a real estate attorney is not experienced in defending a person in federal or state court when you’re talking about criminal defense. It may be helpful to have an attorney with some experience in the area, or you may want or your attorney may want to consult with an attorney in the underlying area of law—for example, for real estate or bankruptcy, you may want to have an attorney who is either familiar with the bankruptcy process or consults with an attorney in the bankruptcy process. But it’s really necessary to have an attorney who is familiar with the criminal procedure and the criminal laws that are what is at stake.
