Question: What is arson? What are the penalties in Wisconsin?

Answer: So, arson is a felony in Wisconsin, and basically that is intentionally setting fire to a building in order to obtain some sort of benefit. Usually people think of that as obtaining an insurance benefit. I suppose, as long as there’s any ability to obtain some sort of a benefit from it, if you burn down a building, it is arson. And, again, the penalties, there are felony penalties, so it is potential for prison time, it is generally considered to be a very serious offense. Again, the amount of loss can affect exactly how serious that crime is.
