Question: How is shoplifting categorized in Wisconsin?

Answer: So retail theft is the intentional taking away of merchandise that’s held for resale. There’s also within that either concealing, transferring, removing a theft detection device, altering the price of the value of merchandise that’s held for resale—all of those can be considered shoplifting or we term it retail theft. That has to be done intentionally. So, if someone forgets that they have something in a certain location that is not necessarily an intentional taking; there’s other kinds of issues that can arise, but that’s probably the most common issue.
