Wisconsin Sex Crime Laws

In this day and age, even the accusation of a sex-related crime is enough to tarnish reputations. Unfortunately, not every allegation is accurate, which can affect the future of the accused. For this reason, any person facing a sex crime is advised to retain legal counsel immediately to mitigate the impact that the charge has on your life.

Sex Crime Charges

In Wisconsin, sex crimes can fall into five different categories, from first degree (the most serious) to fourth degree. If convicted of a sex crime, the court will determine your sentence based on the seriousness of the offense. Sex offender registry is often required—in many cases up to a lifetime. GPS lifetime monitoring may also be ordered in some cases.

First-degree criminal sexual conduct generally consists of acts such as sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 13, sexual intercourse forced by use of a deadly weapon or force, rape of a mentally or physically impaired person, and sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 by an authority figure.

Lesser degree sex crimes generally involve children older than 12 or adults without the use of a deadly weapon. Fourth degree sexual assault is a misdemeanor charge. Other sex crimes that do not fall into these categories include prostitution, soliciting and possession of pornography.
