Sauk County, WI Jail Release

If you have a loved one in jail in Sauk County, the first thing on your mind is probably how soon he or she can be released. Just like any legal process, it can be time consuming trying to bail someone out. However, working with an experienced attorney can help speed the process up and get your loved one out of jail as soon as possible.

Getting Released from Sauk County Jail

Wisconsin does not allow a for-profit bail bond industry. This means that instead of a private industry handling bail bonds, the state handles it. However, you still have to make bail to be released from jail. Making bail means agreeing to return to court for your hearing, either with a signed document or with a financial deposit to reassure the county that you will be there. If you do not return for your hearing, you could face months to years in prison depending on your charge, and a hefty fine.

There are a few different ways that you can get released from a Sauk County jail. These include:

  • Release on Recognizance – The defendant agrees to return to court for the hearing. There is no bail set. This option is usually only offered to first time non-violent offenders.
  • Cash Bond – The defendant may pay the entire amount of bail to the state without the use of an outside individual.
  • 10% Surety Bond – An individual who is 21 or older and willing to help the defendant can pay 10 percent of the bail amount in cash to the court.
  • Signature Bond – A bail amount is set, but does not have to be paid unless the accused does not show up to court.

Getting in Contact with an Inmate in Sauk County Jail

If you need to get ahold of an inmate being held in Sauk County Jail, there are a few ways you can go about it. You cannot leave a telephone message for an inmate unless you have an emergency, such as a death in the family or major illness, which will need to be verified. Otherwise, you will need to contact the inmate through the postal system. You may visit your loved one in person by pre-registering and arriving during visitation hours.
