Iowa County, WI Jail Release

If you have a loved one in jail in Iowa County, it is important to work with an experienced attorney to make sure that the defendant is properly guided throughout the legal process and has the best defense possible. An attorney can also speed up the jail release process.

How to Get Someone Released from Iowa County Jail

Once someone has been booked into Iowa County Jail, they will usually be set a bail. This is the amount of money that must be paid before the defendant can be released. The purpose is to ensure that, if you want to get your money back, the accused will return for his or her court appearance.

Because Wisconsin does not have a for-profit bail bond industry, you will not go through a bondsman to get your loved one release from jail. Instead, there are a few other options. This includes:

  • 10 percent surety bond – A 10 percent surety bond allows someone, aged 21 or older, to help the defendant by paying 10 percent of his or her bail.
  • Cash bond – To use a cash bond, the defendant or a loved one must pay the entire bail amount in cash. Because bail can be set quite high, this option is not very popular.
  • Signature bond – In a signature bond, the defendant must sign a document saying that he or she will pay the entire bail amount if he does not show up to his court date.
  • Released on recognizance – Generally only available to first-time offenders with non-violent misdemeanors, this option is utilized when there is no bail amount set, but the accused must still sign a document saying he or she will return to court.
